Tajweed refers to the set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all their qualities and applying the various traditional methods of recitation of the Quran. 5. Raa’ Rules: The pronunciation of the letter Raa’ (ر) changes depending on the surrounding letters and whether it is tafkheem (emphasized) or tarqeeq (lightened).
6. Heavy and Light Letters (Tafkheem and Tarqeeq): Some letters are always heavy (tafkheem), some are always light (tarqeeq), and some can be heavy or light depending on the context.
7. Stopping on the Ends of Words (Waqf and Ibtida): Rules about how to properly pause and start reading again, including the proper pronunciation when stopping on a word.
8. Articulation Points (Makharij al-Huruf): The specific places in the mouth and throat where each letter’s sound should originate.
9. Characteristics of the Letters (Sifat al-Huruf): Each letter has specific qualities, such as being strong or weak, whispery or clear. Understanding these helps in correct pronunciation.
10. Lam Sakinah Rules: Rules related to the pronunciation of Lam (ل) when it is sakinah, particularly in the context of the word “Allah” (الله) and other similar contexts.
11. Idghaam without Ghunnah: Merging certain letters into the following letter without nasalization.
